Pence wants to release $200 million for Indiana's infrastructure program

Indiana Governor Mike Pence said on Jan. 6 that he will ask the State Budget Committee to review his plan to release the remaining $200 million funded for the “Major Moves 2020” program.

Pence signed HEA 1002 into law following the 2014 legislative session. This transportation funding authorizes the budget agency to transfer as much as $200 million from state’s general funding to the Major Moves trust fund, the state's website said.

“When we call ourselves the Crossroads of America, we need to have the roads to back it up,” Pence said. “Projected revenue reports show good overall financial health for the state, and I am confident an additional $200 million can be invested in a fiscally responsible way to put Hoosiers to work on Indiana’s infrastructure.”

Two contracts have already been awarded and construction will begin later this year. The projects are I-65 from Mainstreet in Greenwood to Southport Road in Indianapolis and I-65 in the Lafayette area from SR 38 to SR 25.

Since 2013 when Pence began his term, his administration has released $800 million available for transportation infrastructure, including $200 million for local governments.
