Deadline for Cincinnati Streetcar operation proposals extended to March 30

Proposals relating to operations and maintenance services for the Cincinnati Streetcar have been extended until 2 p.m. March 30, the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) said Tuesday.

The deadline was extended to provide additional time for the submission of more proposals.

Work includes responsibility for staffing, processes, procedures, materials, services and management for the successful operation of the streetcar in a safe, reliable, efficient and customer friendly manner.

SORTA is considering an inclusive turnkey contractor approach or a management contractor approach. SORTA requests that those interested submit proposals and price information for both approaches.

Under the turnkey contract approach, the contractor would operate and maintain the Cincinnati Streetcar. The contractor would accomplish all required activities using personnel that it employs and manages.

Under the management contract approach, the contractor would provide management services to operate and maintain the streetcar. SORTA would be responsible for employing, hiring, paying and administering benefits for front-line operations and maintenance personnel. The contractor would manage the employees on a day-to-day basis. The contractor would directly employ and manage all other personnel.

The Cincinnati Streetcar is expected to open in September 2016 and is intended to expand transportation options in and around the city.
