Brussels Transport gets final order of Bombardier trams
The STIB now has the world’s largest, single-type tram fleet.
The partnership between STIB and Bombardier Transportation began in 2003 with STIB’s order of 46 of the trams and increased during the intervening years. The authority now operates 70 seven-module trams and 150 five-module vehicles.
"Comfort, availability and information really matter to our customers," Brieuc de Meeûs, CEO of STIB, said. "With these new trams, which are more modern and spacious, we meet our passengers' expectations and continue improving our service and availability. This is much appreciated by our customers according to the latest customer satisfaction survey. Here trams were rated equal to metros in terms of comfort."
The FLEXITY tram received the prestigious Henry van de Velde Label from Belgian design organization Design Flanders in 2007.
"We are very proud that our 100 percent low floor trams contribute to providing efficient, passenger-friendly and comfortable public transport in the capital of Europe," Lutz Bertling, president and chief operating officer of Bombardier Transportation, added. "We are looking forward to continuing our long-term partnership with STIB in the years to come."
