TSA surpasses 1 million enrollments in prescreening program

The Transportation Security Agency (TSA) said their Pre-Check program has exceeded the 1 million passenger mark on March 24.

The program allows enrolled passengers who are deemed to be a low risk access to an expedited screening process that saves time for passengers and agents. The Pre-Check application program opened in 2013.

The TSA's Pre-Check program and the Global Entry, SENTRI and NEXUS programs have a combined 4.6 million trusted travelers enrolled.

"The continued growth and passenger participation in TSA (Pre-Check) affirms our commitment to the evolution of our intelligence-driven, risk-based approach to aviation security,” TSA Acting Administrator Melvin Carraway said. “This milestone is a testament to the outstanding collaborative work between TSA, airports, airlines and most importantly, the traveling public. With more than 330 application centers nationwide, it is easier than ever to apply for expedited screening.”

The TSA program can be utilized at certain security checkpoints. Its participating airlines include Alaska Airlines, Air Canada, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.

The TSA said at the Pre-Check program has 330 application centers across the country and within 31 airports. This program does not allow screenings to be skipped and expedited screening is not guaranteed due to the unpredictability of security measures.
