The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) said on Monday that the on- and off-ramps for northbound I-29

at the U.S. 275/Iowa 92 interchange (exit 47) are set to close on Thursday for approximately one year for road work.

In addition, Denmark Drive into Metro Crossing will be closed until sometime in September. This road will open again in September 2015.

These changes will impact the traffic flow of the region, as drivers must follow the detour route that runs through the South Expressway/Iowa 192 exit/on-ramp (exit 3).

The US 275/Iowa 92 traffic is scheduled to move from the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes in September 2015. Since June 2014, traffic has been limited to one lane on this road for re-paving and to rebuild the westbound bridges. Now these lanes will shift so construction crews can access the eastbound lanes for repairs.

IDOT said there may be one or two overnight closures for I-29 in the coming months, and drivers should note that the Metro Drive will be open while construction is taking place on the other roads.

Detours will be clearly posted, and drivers will be informed of any changes well in advance.

This is all part of an overall project to reconstruct I-80, I-29 and I-480 in the Council Bluffs metropolitan area. This comprehensive Interstate redesign will modernize the highway system and improve mobility and safety over approximately 18 miles of Interstate.
