Portable vessel tracking system implemented at Port of Newhaven

Captain Collins-Williams at the Port of Newhaven, England, recently received and implemented a new GeoVS Portable VTS System, created by SRT Marine Systems Solutions Limited; the SRT Portable VTS is a vessel tracking system with full features and standalone abilities, which gives the port an added measure of security and assurance.

The real-time, dynamic 3D coverage is specifically designed as an emergency backup as well as a flexible mobile monitoring system.

Using an integrated high performance AIS receiver, the GeoVS display system receives live data for its full 3D graphics as well as vessel information. The Portable VTS System is packed in a weather proof and ruggedized case. It can be assembled in minutes and does not require external power to operate for several hours at a time.

The latest U.K. Harbour Master Seminar in Edinburgh, Scotland, had the new system as a prize. Collins-Williams won it by estimating the actual retail price closer than others. His estimation was that the system was worth more than $22,000.

“The addition of the SRT GeoVS Portable VTS will enhance the efficient operation of the Port of Newhaven and the bonus of real time dynamic 3D will aid the understanding of any potential incidents and further improve safety,” Collins-Williams said.

Further information concerning the Portable VTS is available on the marine systems website.
