Wisconsin DOT launches free mobile app for traffic alerts

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation recently launched its free smartphone application that offers travelers up-to-date traffic alerts.

Travelers in Wisconsin will have information about delays, backups, traffic incidents, closures, detours, weather-related road conditions and work zones as they commute. It uses traffic alerts to relay the information to drivers and can be personalized to focus on the traveler’s favorite places. The app is available on Android as well as Apple smartphones.

The app includes approximately 400 traffic camera live feeds that allow drivers to view the current road conditions. It provides drivers with speeds and travel times for routes that are frequently traveled. Travelers will also have free access to incident notifications as well as road work information, which includes the times and dates of lane restrictions and full closures.

Unfortunately, accidents, injuries, and even death can occur when drivers are not paying attention to the road and making appropriate safety decisions. Safety is the leading priority of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, which is why people using the app must agree that they will not use the app while they are driving.

Further information is available at the Statewide Traffic Operations Center.
