State Sen. Tim Golden recently joined the board of the State Transportation Board (STB), a branch of the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Golden was unanimously elected to replace Jay Shaw, a board member who died earlier this year during his second term. Golden will represent the 8th Congressional District, which includes 24 counties throughout the state, for the next five years.

The STB is responsible for evaluating policy and exercises of the general governance of the state’s Department of Transportation. The board consists of 14 members.

Golden has more than 24 years of experience in the legislature. He has been a leader in implementing a long line of employment, educational, small business and health care reform initiatives for residents living in Cook, Clinch, Echols, Brooks, Lowndes, Lanier and Thomas counties.

Golden currently serves as the chairman of the Senate Insurance & Labor Committee. He also is vice chair of the Senate Finance Committee. In addition, he is a member of the OneGeorgia Overview Committee as well as the Senate Higher Education Committee.

Golden and his wife Ellen, a State Court Judge of Lowndes County, have a son.
