KCATA honored to communications excellence and regional leadership

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) was recently honored with four separate awards recognizing its work to market public transportation, improve regional transit and practice distinguished leadership.

This is the first time that the Kansas Public Transportation Association (KPTA) has named KCATA the Transit Service of the Year. KCATA was chosen for its introduction of the regional RideKC brand, which serves to unite all four of the area’s regional transit agencies within one overarching umbrella. Beginning in late 2014, RideKC has united the Kansas City area’s transit services under a single logo. This initiative provides riders with one regional website to explain information about transit.

KCATA also earned first place for its use of a new compressed natural gas fueling station. This included the distribution of 10,000 brochures that promoted the new bus system to potential riders.

Additionally, the KCATA’s marketing and communication efforts were nationally recognized by the American Public Transportation Association. The two efforts earned first-place awards at the annual 2015 AdWheel competition.

Finally, the American Public Transportation Association will officially honor the KCATA for its work this past year.

The annual meeting and awarding will be held in October in San Francisco.
