ADOT holds public hearings for passenger rail corridor study.
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced that it will host three public hearings this week to give community members the opportunity to review and comment on the department’s outline for a passenger rail system.

The system is designed to connect two of the state’s metropolitan areas. The proposed rail system will extend through Pinal, Maricopa and Pima counties, all of which create the Sun Corridor. This project could benefit the local residents of both Tucson and Phoenix as well the regional and national economies.

ADOT has partnered with the Federal Railroad Administration for the project. They have published the Draft Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement for ADOT’s Passenger Rail Corridor Study: Tucson to Phoenix. This document is also under review by the National Environmental Policy Act process.

All three of the public hearings will be held this week. Rail study team members will be there to answer any questions that the public may have.

The first hearing will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 15 at the Phoenix Public Library. The second is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Tucson Convention Center. The third is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Central Arizona College.
