All eastbound Interstate 96 traffic in Michigan's Livingston County is now in its new configuration following recent lane closures.

This weekend's lane closures at eastbound I-96 and U.S. 23 were needed so crews could change the eastbound traffic back onto the new lanes of the freeway.

Westbound lane closures began Monday night in an effort to complete the traffic switch and move on to the next phase of the project.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said that the project is currently four weeks ahead of schedule.

As part of the ongoing project to make major safety improvements to the interchange, MDOT still needs to construct collector roads and bridges.
