Public hearing slated for new bridge in Indiana’s Noble County

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) recently announced that it will hold a public hearing about a proposed bridge to take the Norfolk Southern Railroad over U.S. 6 in Brimfield, Indiana.

The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Albion Municipal Building, 211 E. Park Drive, in Albion, Indiana.

The goal of the hearing is to provide the general public with a chance to comment about the proposed designs for a new bridge in Noble County.

The proposed bridge would be an estimated 100 feet west of the current bridge. Its construction would mean that U.S. 6 will need to be realigned so that it meets the new bridge approaches. To accomplish this, there will not be any access to U.S. 6 beginning at CR 100 E (at the southern end of U.S. 6) and Albion Street (at the northern end). Now Railroad Street and Albion Road are under the current bridge; these two streets would be eliminated with the new bridge.

In addition, the new bridge will need another 6.3 acres for the road’s permanent right of way.
