BATIC Institute schedules webinar emphasizing bridge replacement

Officials from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) recently announced a new webinar with Build America Transportation Investment Center (BATIC) Institute that will emphasize Pennsylvania’s bridge replacements.

Anthony Foxx, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, recently launched BATIC. BATIC is designed to integrate contact and coordination for municipalities, states, and project sponsors who want to request federal transportation financing, use federal transportation expertise, and discover new ways to reach private capital through public private partnerships.

The goal of the Institute is to transition projects and ideas from the drawing board to solutions that apply to real-life transportation needs.

The training and education portion of BATIC is the result of a collaboration between USDOT and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). It includes a special website that has a vigorous program of training online as well as peer-to-peer exchanges. The Institute can now help State Departments of Transportation as well as local partner agencies better understand and implement a wide range of transportation finance approaches.

The first session at the Institute will be held on November 4. It will be a webinar highlighting the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) new Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. The program applies a new public private partnership that will serve to replace structurally inadequate bridges in Pennsylvania. The crews will need to replace 558 bridges in three years.
