2 new train cars nearing delivery to BART

Production of two new train cars is nearing completion and soon they will be on their way to the Bay Area Rapid Transportation (BART) in California.

The first of the two new train cars is almost finished. It will travel from Plattsburgh, New York to Hayward, California on a flatbread truck next month, where it will be thoroughly tested on BART’s tracks before being put into service in December 2016.

The new trains, built by Bombardier Transit Corporation, were created with design feedback from local BART riders. BART aims to add 1,081 new train cars to its fleet. As of today, more than 35,000 people have given feedback to help design the new "Fleet of the Future."

The new train cars feature a new cooling system, quieter doors, comfortable seats with extra padding and wipeable fabric, and color-coded route maps.

The doors will keep out additional noise, while the cooling system will evenly distribute air throughout the cars, improving air circulation for riders.

These added features, plus the improved seating, will make the cars more comfortable for passengers, with the colored routes including automated announcements and digital screens to make the train system easier to use.
