PHMSA withdraws amendment for bulk explosive transportation

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will publish a notice Monday to withdraw a proposed amendment to the Hazardous Materials Regulations.

Congress mandated the decision to withdraw PHMSA's proposed amendment due to the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act.

The updates to the Hazardous Materials Regulations adopt nine special permits focused on the safe transportation of bulk explosives cargo tank motor vehicles and multipurpose bulk trucks.

These special permits have a history of safety and have been longstanding and widely used.

Paperwork will see a reduction as firms will no longer need to apply individually for renewal requests.

While the PHMSA will no longer issue the amendment, they have decided to continue to consider ways to make the transporting of flammable liquids by cargo trucks safer.
