WSDOT: Bridge work to reduce I-5 stretch to two lanes in Snohomish County

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will reduce southbound Interstate 5, located in Snohomish County, to two lanes from Everett to Marysville, from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday to replace worn and aging expansion joints on the Steamboat Slough and Ebey Bridges.

Work will shift to other areas of the bridge the following seven weekends, under a similar schedule. Overnight Fridays and Saturdays, only one lane will be open between midnight and 6 a.m. on these eight weekends.

Drivers who need to travel on southbound I-5 must plan for slowdowns and backups on these weekends. The speed limit will be decreased to 40 mph.

WSDOT is doing everything possible to guarantee that traffic continues to flow normally despite the construction. Over 63,000 vehicles use this portion of the Interstate daily; an estimated 30 percent of these drivers must find alternative routes so that the area can avoid major delays and backups.

To further help the traffic issue, there is a new traffic map available specifically for Snohomish County. The map includes travel times and real-time traffic cameras, which should help reduce congestion, and can be found at www.wsdot.com/traffic/cameras/marysville.aspx?_ga=1.136588467.2063704908.1456178176.
