The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), a branch of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), said this week that it is seeking nominations for its new Port Performance Freight Statistics Working Group.

The group is part of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act and aims to make recommendations on nationally consistent measures of port capacity and throughput to develop a process for collecting  timely and consistent data.

The BTS must find nominees that represent the trucking industry, the rail industry, the maritime shipping industry, the International Longshoremen’s Association, a port authority, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, a terminal operator, a labor representative from every industry (such as trucking, rail, and maritime shipping), and the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.

All nominations must be received by March 23. The public can send nominations to portstatistics@dot.gov, which goes to Patricia Hu, the BTS director. Nominations are also being accepted at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology, Bureau of Transportation Statistics, Attn: Port Performance Freight Statistics Working Group, U.S. Department of Transportation, 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE, Room E34-429, Washington, D.C., 20590.
