The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) said this week that the Grand Avenue Bridge project in Glenwood Springs will require several temporary closures and detours.

The eastbound off-ramp and on-ramp to I-70 Exit 116 will be closed all weekend until 6 a.m. Monday so that workers can install a storm drain, which is part of the Grand Avenue Bridge project. Drivers who need access to the eastbound routes to access Glenwood Springs will need to use Glenwood Springs should use Exit 114.

Drivers who need to go west on CO 82 will need to use the I-70 westbound on-ramp, exit 116. They can also use U.S. 6 westbound through exit 114, joining with I-70 eastbound using roundabouts.

On Tuesday, Glenwood Canyon will be closed from Exit 133 (Dotsero) to exit 116 (Glenwood Springs) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. so crews can finish installing rockfall mitigation fencing. They need to use a helicopter to finish these road repairs, as they shift the traffic into one lane in each direction the following week.

On Wednesday, I-70 at exit 116 will be detoured to Sixth Street from 8 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

“The detour is necessary for safety critical overhead work, as the contractor is removing a 108-foot section of the Glenwood Springs pedestrian bridge,” CDOT Project Public Information Manager Tom Newland said.
