U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer (R–NE) convened a hearing this week titled “Keep Goods Moving” with the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure Safety and Security.
The hearing focused on the nation’s supply chain and the efficiency and reliability of U.S. ports, and what it takes to ensure supply keeps up with demand. Witnesses testified on the impact of delays and congestion on highways, as well as the transportation infrastructure that needs to be upgraded.
Delays and disruptions in supply transportation can cause canceled orders and financial losses for businesses.
“Equipment shortages, labor strife, worldwide moves toward larger vessels and security challenges all have potential to create new shipping disruptions if not properly addressed," Fischer said before the hearing.
