After three years of work, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has launched its Electronic Permit and Routing Online (ePRO) system for commercial drivers to obtain permits for carrying cargo, ADOT said last week.
The system aims to help drivers receive notice of travel and roadway restrictions and to expedite the permit process. Previosuly, these permits were only granted at state ports of entry and central offices. With the ePRO system, commercial carriers can obtain and access most permits 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through an online portal.
To use the system, interested carriers and drivers must first obtain a username and password, giving them access to existing permits and the ability to obtain new ones.
"The efficient and safe movement of freight is a keystone to improve Arizona’s economic foundation,” ADOT Director John Halikowski said. “To stay competitive, Arizona must provide our business partners with solid information about safe, reliable routes to support travel decisions. Systems like ePRO support that mission.”
Every year, the ADOT issues more than 250,000 permits for the 3,000 commercial carriers that operate in Arizona.
Information about the ePRO system is available at www.azdot.gov/permits.
