The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) held a public hearing Feb. 10 to discuss a proposed U.S. 31 interchange at State Road 28 in Tipton County.
INDOT discussed bridging SR 28 and U.S. 31, and creating roundabouts to regulate ramp traffic. These plans include adding direct access to the Tipton Transmission Plant, a major commercial business and employment area for Tipton County residence. In addition, the department plans to construct a looping ramp for motorists entering
southbound
U.S. 31.
The hearing was open to the public for review, comment and suggestions for improvement.
The contract is expected to open for bids in August and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016. The project was first proposed in 2013, but INDOT was not able to secure funding.
