U.S. Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) will discuss the reauthorization of MAP-21 during a legislative briefing at the 2015 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Convention and Legislative Summit on April 19 to 22 in Washington D.C.
MAP-21 is a performance-based federal program to tackle the challenges facing the U.S. transportation system including improving safety, maintaining infrastructure, reducing traffic congestion, improving efficiency of the transportation system and freight movement, protecting the environment and reducing delays in project delivery.
Inhofe is chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, which has primary jurisdiction over the federal highway
program. The committee will play a vital role in developing and passing a bill to fund transit and highway projects in future years.
Inhofe said that the passage of a well-funded, long-term bill is his top priority.
ACEC’s citizen lobbyists will be at the convention to meet with congressional delegations in order to advocate for fast reauthorization of MAP-21.
ACEC will host a reception for U.S. Rep. Sam Graves, (R-MO),
chairman of the House Highways and Transit Subcommittee.
Graves is the lead sponsor of ACEC legislation to improve the design-build process for federal products.
The convention also will feature CEO, CFO and CIO roundtables, educational sessions, federal market opportunity sessions and the engineering excellence awards gala.
