Leading B2B provider Dicom Transportation Group announced in Chicago last month that it has acquired Modern Forwarding, a Windsor, Ontario-based transport firm specializing in U.S.-Canada cross-border business.
With expertise in customs clearance, the company’s 100-driver and owner-operator fleet will now work in tandem with Dicom’s base operations to significantly broaden its business this year. Dicom CEO Scott Dobak extolled Modern’s capabilities, saying its "cross-border expertise will serve as an important link between Dicom's extensive Canadian footprint and our expanding U.S. network."
Dicom has been a portfolio holding of Wind Point Partners since February 2014.
"The acquisition of Modern is a key step in expanding Dicom's scale and scope of services,"
Wind Point principal Konrad Salaber said. "With over ($200 million) in annual sales, Dicom is firmly establishing itself as a leading transportation and logistics provider for North American shippers."
The company’s acquisition strategy centers on courier, LTL and transportation providers in Quebec, Ontario, and the U.S. It also seeks out 3PL providers managing transportion, logistics and supply chain functions in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
Dicom’s acquisition was handled by Kirkland & Ellis LLP and KPMG LLC. Modern Forwarding was assisted by AIM Group Canada. Dicom, headquartered in Dorval, Quebec, operates Express, Freight and Logistics divisions.
