Reading and Northern Railroad names Thomas Cook vice president of transportation and safety

Reading and Northern Railroad said Monday that Thomas Cook has been appointed the company’s new vice president of transportation and safety.

Cook earned his Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Gettysburg College in 1984.

Cook’s previous experience with leadership and operations is marked by a zeal of developing engineers and employees while making safety a top priority.

In January 2015, Cook retired from CSX Transportation and Conrail after worked there for 30 years. Since December 2010, he has been assistant superintendent at Curtis Bay Piers in Maryland, where he led daily operations as the company rapidly grew. He previously served in a number of roles at Conrail and CSX, including sales and operations.

In 2008, Cook received the Chairman’s Award of Excellence from CSX for creating the company’s culture of mentoring new managers and focusing on safety. He accomplished these goals while he was a trainmaster in Indianapolis.

Reading & Northern Railroad is based in Port Clinton, Pennyslvania. The company is privately held. It provides service to more than 50 customers in nine counties in eastern Pennslyvania: Carbon, Columbia, Bradford, Berks, Northumberland, Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming and Schuylkill. During the past 20 years, the company has expanded operations to become one of the top railroads in the state of Pennsylvania.
