Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) recently released a statement that emphasizes her support for long-term infrastructure changes that will benefit the American economy.
Chu’s commitment supports the reauthorization of funding for federal highways through Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). She is also committed to allocating finances to modify American freight infrastructure to benefit the American economy and local communities.
“Transportation is crucial to our daily lives, our businesses, and our vitality,” Chu said. “Here in the San Gabriel Valley, we have a number of projects underway to repair and improve our infrastructure. But often, that progress happens despite consistent federal funding. We need a long-term extension of funding for federal transportations programs. But we must act quickly. MAP-21, which allows the Highway Trust Fund to fund crucial highway and public transit projects all over the region and country, expires in a few weeks.”
Chu said reauthorization should include specific freight infrastructure funding.
“Sixty percent of our nation’s shipping containers come through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, through the San Gabriel Valley, and then to the rest of the nation," Chu said. "Our communities deserve the certainty that the federal government will invest in their prosperity. I am committed to guaranteeing the long-term infrastructure commitments we need.”
