The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said April 23 that Club Ride Commuter Services, a free program of the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada, is receiving its Clean Air Excellence Award for “Community Action”
“We have been working diligently with our program partners to create a cleaner, more sustainable community,” RTC General Manager Tina Quigley said. “We are proud to receive this great accolade and to share it with our partners as we continue to improve the quality of life for the millions of people who live, work and play in Southern Nevada.”
The award acknowledges original state, local, tribal and private sector programs that protect health and the environment, educate the public, serve their communities and improve the economy.
The EPA and members of the Clean Air Act Advisory Committee choose who is given the community action award. The award relates to the community partnership efforts that reduce emissions of air pollutants or greenhouse gases.
Club Ride Commuter Services was created to better air quality and encourage alternative commutes including riding transit, carpooling, van-pooling, walking, motorcycling, bicycling, telecommuting and compressed workweeks.
In 2014, Club Ride Commuter Services created an incentive for commuters to use alternative methods of transportation. Through the program, they registered more than 10,000 new commuters who reported more than 1 million clean commutes and reduced nearly 60 tons of carbon monoxide from the environment.
