U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE) served as chairwoman on Tuesday of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security during the third hearing in a series titled “Surface Transportation Reauthorization: The Importance of a Long Term Reauthorization.”
The series focuses on the effort to reauthorize funding for highway safety and infrastructure projects through the Highway Trust Fund, which is set to expire soon. Tuesday's hearing focused on the importance of long-term surface transportation reauthorization. Witnesses testified about how national surface transportation policy impacts state and local governments, as well as the private sector, and how communities need a bill that secures long-term reauthorization.
