Civil and building construction company Tutor Perini Corp. announced today it has been awarded a $56.3 million contract by Amtrak to build the 11th Avenue extension to the concrete casing recently completed beneath the eastern rail yard of Hudson Yards in New York City.
The project has been funded through a Department of Transportation Sandy Resiliency grant under the 2013 Disaster Relief Act, and is the next phase of a concrete casing constructed to preserve the future potential pathway of a new train tunnel under the Hudson River into Penn Station.
The 11th Avenue concrete casing extension will extend underground beneath 11th Avenue between 31st and 33rd streets. Construction began in January and should be substantially completed late this year.
