General Motors employees aim to transform transportation

General Motors (GM) recently released a sustainability report that outlines the efforts of GM’s employees to transform transportation by living out the new purposes and values outlined by GM.

All 216,000 employees have been striving to earn customer loyalty, improve the communities where they work and implement useful technology advances, all of which work toward achieving the new goals of GM.

Mary Barra, the CEO of GM, has encouraged the company to find more efficient ways to drive sustainably. The company’s new goals are part of her plan to produce safer, smarter vehicles that have less impact on the environment.

GM sees electricity as the future of transportation. Billions of dollars of investments have been spend to support development and manufacturing of all-in-house approaches to electric vehicles. The company now estimates that there are 180,834 electric vehicles driving throughout the U.S., which is a substantial increase compared to the 153,034 originally estimated in 2013.

"GM will take a leading role in the auto industry's transformation as it undergoes an unprecedented period of change," Bob Ferguson, senior vice president, GM Global Public Policy, said. "From GM's labs to its assembly lines, our people are driving the world to a better place through improved mobility."
