NJDOT holds emergency response training for transit staff

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) held emergency response training for transit and terminal operations staff last week.
The training covered multiple areas. It included NJDOT staff and emergency response personnel in order to develop communication capabilities and increase efficiency of clearing roads after an accident.

Training focused on Traffic Incident Management, and the cooperation of NJDOT staff and response agency staff in order to smoothly handle incidents in a safe and efficient manner.

A simulation involving a staged incident scene was used. Response personnel managed the use of fire equipment and working with a local towing operator. The course took place at the Ferry Street Bus Operations Training Facility in Newark, New Jersey.

More than 3,600 emergency response personnel including firefighters, safety service patrol, emergency medical technicians and tow truck operators have been trained using the program. It is federally compliant in regard to safety guidelines, procedures, communication, and the role each agency or response team has and what their responsibilities entail. 

The training also allows for those who normally operate on roads and highways in the state to familiarize themselves with the terminology, procedures and overall management of an accident scene so that they are prepared if they are called to an actual scene.
