International freight report forecasts annual market grow of more than 17 percent

Ireland's Research and Markets released a report last week that said the global intermodal freight transportation market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of more than 17 percent from 2014-2019.

The report said globalization and international trade are major market drivers, with the increase in exports and imports of goods raising the demand for different transportation modes.

The geospatial intermodal freight transportation model is used to calculate the emission, energy, cost, delivery time and other attributes of intermodal freight transportation. A complete version of this network can determine thousands of origin-destination pairs to represent freight flow from existing data sets. Companies can also explore the various trade-offs related to several modes of transportation.

The report said that the high demand for customization is one of the major challenges in the market.
