On the Move Systems said on Tuesday that it is developing an application that will allow trucking companies to take advantage of analytics and engage in data collection to schedule and route vehicles.
The company said the app is a shared-economy platform that can manage the data that is crucial in the commercial shipping industry and difficult to monitor with current means.
“Big Data gives truckers valuable insight into current and future trends, enables them to identify new market opportunities and more effectively determine the true cost of operating their businesses,” On the Move CEO Robert Wilson said. “Our revolutionary online platform will let truckers exploit Big Data and take advantage of the shared economy to drive down costs and improve efficiency and profits.”
A recent Forbes article said for-hire trucking companies are increasing their use of data collection. This includes devices installed on individual vehicles that track hours driven, fuel usage and when an emergency action such as a hard break is taken. The technology that has been adopted by larger trucking companies also allows drivers and experts at the company's headquarters to address problems that occur en route. On the Move saw the opportunity to connect companies and drivers to data collection services through an online app.
