TriMet welcomes new board members

TriMet, which provides public transit via bus, light rail and commuter rail transit services in the Portland, Oregon, metro area, recently named two new members to its board of directors.

Shelley Martin and Lori Irish Bauman were appointed by Gov. Kate Brown and confirmed by the state Senate to begin their terms on the TriMet board immediately. The new members will represent southwest and southeast Portland.

“I look forward to working alongside these new board members to continue to move the agency forward,” TriMet Board President Bruce Warner said. “Their expertise will be invaluable as we look to expand transit service to meet the growing population.”

The seven-member TriMet Board is appointed by the governor. Members set policy for the agency and appoint the general manager as well as implement legislation pertaining to transit operations. They also have the authority to review and approve some contracts.

Board members are volunteers and are limited to two four-year terms.

Martin has been with Fred Meyer, Inc., where she has worked in management and with human resources laws and regulations, for 30 years. Currently she is a specialist with Fred Meyer's human resources department, where she advises on labor and employee issues for 132 stores in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Additionally, she has handled more than 120 collective bargaining agreements, and personally handles Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaints, Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) complaints, union grievances, and wage and hour disputes.

Martin will represent District 3 in southwest Portland. She resides in Tualatin, Oregon and is active in a variety of community organizations.

Martin's goal as a board member will be to maintain TriMet’s integrity while creating a safe and efficient transportation experience for Portland residents.

Bauman has been practicing law in California and Oregon for almost 40 years. Presently, she is Ater Wynne LLP's senior counsel.

Bauman's law practice focuses on commercial litigation and appeal, dispute resolution, contract and business tort claims, and antitrust advising. She has worked with intellectual property, administrative, environmental, security and Indian law issues.

Bauman has served on the Multnomah County Library Advisory Board, and has been involved with the City Club of Portland and other non-profits.

Bauman lives in southeast Portland and will represent District 4.
