U.S. Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), chairwoman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, and Angus King (I-ME) said on Thursday that the Economic Development Administration (EDA) has approved funds for the Maine Department of Transportation to build the Interstate 95 Trafton Road Interchange located in Waterville, Maine.
The $992,687 grant will be used to build the interchange, as well as realign a roadway adjacent to the Interstate. Improving this roadway will provide better access to the industrial facilities located in the area, helping to boost the economy.
The EDA reports that the construction project will generate an additional 325 new jobs in the area. This fact as well as the overall positive impact of improved roadways on the US economy makes this grant a worthwhile investment for the entire region.
“This important investment will strengthen our infrastructure in Waterville, facilitating economic development across our state,” a joint statement from the senators said. “Investments in infrastructure are investments in improved public safety and economic prosperity, the lifeblood of our communities.”
