SCDOT to amend transportation plan

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) recently gave public notice about a proposed amendment to South Carolina's Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP).

The amendment would change the project description for the Interstate 20/Interstate 26/Interstate 126 Corridor improvements (Carolina Crossroads Project), which are in Lexington and Richland counties.

Specifically, the amendment would remove some references to express lanes and widening improvements along the corridor, and would also consolidate funding of $82.6 million for construction in fiscal year 2019.

In cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, SCDOT has launched a 36-month environmental impact statement (EIS) analysis to find out what the preferred design solution for the I-20/I-26/I-126 Corridor is. Once the EIS is completed, the STIP project description will be clarified further.

More information can be found online at www.scdot.org/inside/public_comment.aspx. Comments will be accepted until the close of business on June 12 and should be addressed to Vivian Patterson, Public Involvement Manager, and SCDOT Office of Planning, 955 Park Street, P.O. Box 191, Columbia, S.C. 29202 or pattersovm@scdot.org.

A summary of public comments will be forwarded to the SCDOT Commission for consideration.
