Thales announced at this week’s International Public Transport Organization Exhibition 2015 in Milan, Italy, that it has launched the first line of cloud-ready fare-collection solutions, designed for public transportation systems.

TransCity, the latest of Thales’ fare-collection solutions, uses web-oriented technology to simplify both passenger trips and the day-to-day operation of transportation systems.

TransCity provides passengers with a variety of travel pass options. Travelers can either swipe their mobile phones, contactless bank cards, contactless travel cards or purchase a traditional ticket at kiosks and automatic vending machines. Payment for tickets also can be processed at conventional kiosks and automatic vending machines, online, with smart phones or through newer technologies such as near-field communications (NFC).

Operators of transportation systems can use TransCity to better manage and supervise their network infrastructure, anticipate potential equipment failures and optimize maintenance services. Thales’s extensive data analysis tools will also enable operators using TransCity to monitor critical periods to better accommodate travelers’ needs by regulating train traffic or entrance and exit configuration.
