Municipalities in North Carolina have voiced their support for a bond proposal from Gov. Pat McCrory, titled Connect NC, that would focus investment into education and transportation infrastructure, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) said on Friday.
Among cities and towns supporting McCrory's measure are Concord, Kannapolis and Fremont. These and others have passed resolutions that express their official support. The Connect NC measure would allocate improved funding to parks, public health and military support alongside education and transportation projects. The bond would need to be approved as a ballot initiative in November.
“Local leaders understand that long-term, targeted investments in our education and transportation infrastructure will cultivate a stronger economy and improve North Carolina’s quality of life for future generations,” McCrory said. “I commend municipalities across the state for their call to let the voters decide on these important investments.”
The project would fund the paving of 176 secondary roads and facilitate 27 other projects across the state. The tax burden on residents would be unchanged if the bond measure is approved.
“The citizens of North Carolina must be allowed to make the important decision of investing in the opportunities provided to our future generations through the Connect NC bond initiative.” Onslow County's resolution said.
