The Executive Committee of the Underground Construction Association of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (UCA of SME) has elected a new chairman.
The association announced the election of Arthur “Artie” Silber on Friday.
Silber, who has more than 40 years of engineering experience, currently is Hatch Mott MacDonald's senior vice president for Northeast
Corridor transportation offices and staff.
Silber earned his engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. One of his first jobs was with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, for 28 years. During his time there, he worked his way up to the position of assistant commissioner, in charge of all engineering, planning and construction, as well as a $1 billion annual capital program.
Silber then worked at New Jersey Transit, where he led the Capital Program, eventually becoming assistant executive director and chief of
the $9 billion Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) Tunnel Project. Silber also was the project manager for multiple roadway and bridge projects.
