Sen. Dean Heller (R–NV) recently announced that three of his priorities for economic development and transportation safety have been include in SB 1732, or the Comprehensive Transportation and Consumer Protection Act of 2015.
Heller’s included priorities were the Safety Through Informed Consumers Act, Hours of Service Exemptions for drivers of ready mixed concrete trucks, and the Safe Streets Amendment.
The act, which has received approval from the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, would give the Secretary of Transportation the authority to enact reforms to streamline grant programs, improve safety and heighten the efficiency and accountability of oversight efforts.
This act, which would last six years, is part of the multiyear surface transportation legislation that the Senate will soon consider.
“I am pleased to see all three of these important amendments included in this legislation and passed through committee,” Heller said. “Transportation is the backbone of Nevada’s economy, driving commerce and business throughout the state. It is important that safety on our nation’s roads is a priority, while at the same time, supporting our transportation industry and the many businesses utilizing it. I believe these three amendments do just that.”
