Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) recently released his own statement about U.S. leaders choosing to extend surface transportation by three months.

“My goal remains the completion of a long-term bill to improve our Nation’s roads, bridges and other infrastructure as soon as possible, and the House continues to make progress on that bill,” Shuster said. “The Senate’s work on their transportation bill is a positive step, but the House also needs to make its voice heard and put forth its own priorities for such a significant piece of legislation. I believe this three-month extension represents the compromise that allows the House more time, and a confirmation of our commitment to produce a fiscally responsible long-term proposal.”

The new bill was introduced to extend authorization of the transit and federal highway programs until the end of Oct. 2015.

The funding for all federal highway and transit projects expired earlier this year. Local and national leaders have been urging Congress to pass a long-term solution for U.S. transportation funds.

U.S. leaders maintain that the nation’s infrastructure is crucial to its economic growth. Businesses, customers and employees rely on U.S. transportation for their prosperity.
