The Department of Transportation (DOT) recently released the results of its collaboration with the Center for Open Data Enterprise in order to have an Open Data Roundtable in March 2015, which is designed to help the DOT improve its transportation safety data.
This report shows the safety data of the department specifically and also the U.S. federal data system as a whole.
The majority of the DOT’s regulations and safety programs are publicly shared. This helps the department as well as the public to make better decisions. It also helps the department determine whether its goal of providing transportation users with the safest outcomes possible is successful.
The data is also used by other leaders who are also seeking safety goals. The department recognizes that it must continue to improve its database for its own sake and for the others who use the data.
The Center for Open Data Enterprise is an independent, nonprofit organization. Its Open Data Roundtables is a series designed to facilitate action-oriented discussions between organizations and government agencies as well as the public. The Roundtables are organization to help agencies to identify high-value datasets and also determine their priorities. Agencies use these Roundtables to create solutions that will serve to make the data more complete, accurate, easy to work with and usable.
