The U.S. General Service Administration (GSA) recently announced that the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will be transferring its headquarters to a new location in Alexandria, Virginia.
This move is the result of several years of a regionally competitive process. The TSA has settled on offices at the Victory Center, in an existing office building that is vacant and under the management of Prudential Real Estate Investors.
"GSA’s decision to locate the TSA headquarters at Victory Center is a huge economic boost for Alexandria as a whole, and for the West End in particular,” Mayor William D. Euille said. "The city is working on a small area plan for Eisenhower West that encourages new investment, redevelopment and business activity. TSA will serve as a catalyst and will add a daytime office population and on-site retail activity to this developing market."
Now TSA will be at West End, by the Eisenhower Ave. corridor, which
is a commercial mixed-used neighborhood that is connected with the Van
Dorn Metrorail Station.
"The Alexandria City Council, City staff, the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership and Prudential Real Estate Investors and their team of brokers and consultants all contributed to the effort that made today's exciting news possible," Euille said.
The TSA has scheduled the move for 2017; the offices must be renovated
before TSA can move. An estimate 3,800 employees will be working at the
new location.
