The General Services Administration (GSA) announced a new lease agreement on Aug. 12 to relocate the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) to new headquarters at the Victory Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
The owners of Victory Center, an entity of Prudential, will provide $50 million in building improvements before the agency moves in and will receive a $23 million tax abatement from Alexandria over the course of the 15-year lease, according to the Washington Post.
The office selection was part of a three-year process conducted by TSA and GSA, and the move has been scheduled for 2017; the offices must be renovated before TSA can move.
“TSA has worked closely with GSA throughout the past three years to develop this plan and will continue to do so to ensure the consolidation, which will affect approximately 3,800 employees, proceeds as seamlessly as possible,” TSA Spokesman Mike England said.
The new offices are part of Alexandria’s West End, by the Eisenhower Avenue corridor; a neighborhood that is connected with the Van Dorn Metrorail Station.
City officials are optimistic about the economic impact of the relocation.
