The Texas Transportation Commission approved 22 more Proposition 1 projects on Thursday, all of which pertain to roadway construction, restoration and rehabilitation.
As of this move, the commissioners have approved final contract awards for 115 out of the 200 originally planned Proposition 1 projects. The funds, which amount to over $304 million, will be used to improve mobility, safety, and connectivity on Texas roads.
This month’s specific projects include roadway repair on SH 285 (located in Brooks County), widening of SH 21 (located in Madison County), and resurfacing of U.S. 67 (located in Tom Green County).
Texas voters originally approved Proposition 1 in November 2014. The proposition's 200 projects aim to rehabilitate over 800 miles of highways; replace, widen or rehabilitate 114 bridges; improve 500 miles of new highway lanes; and add 159 miles to rural highways.
“The commission and TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) continue to deliver needed transportation projects that will greatly benefit Texas drivers and the state’s economy,” Joe Weber, executive director of TxDOT, said. “The message from community leaders and local planning organizations, as well as the message sent by voters when they approved Proposition 1 last November, is that transportation concerns must be addressed in a manner that is both efficient and effective. Our efforts continue to prove we hear and understand that message.”
