The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said on Wednesday that most ongoing construction projects across the state will be suspended for the Labor Day weekend.
MDOT said that out of 155 ongoing projects, 114 road and bridge projects will be put on hold between 3 p.m. EDT on Friday and 6 a.m. EDT on Tuesday. With this, the normal traffic restrictions associated with construction activity also will be lifted.
MDOT, however, also urges people to drive carefully over the weekend near construction zones, as temporary traffic configurations and equipment may be in place at work sites.
"For many of us, this is our last chance to embrace the waning summer before school starts, and autumn takes a colorful hold of the Great Lakes State," State Transportation Director Kirk Steudle said. "Remember to remain focused and alert at all times, especially through work zones. Another key to staying safe is to be informed. You can see what's ahead of you before you even leave the driveway with MDOT's free Mi Drive app."
Motorists are encouraged to visit the MDOT website for traffic and construction information, which is also available through the Mi Drive app, available for both Apple and Android platforms as a free download.
