Contractor vehicles and law enforcement recently opened the northbound lanes on Interstate 65 in Indiana from Lebanon to Lafayette.
Walsh Construction Co. finished repairs to this section of the road and also load tested Wildcat Creek bridge near Lafayette. Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) inspectors observed the tests to confirm their success.
Maintenance and contractor crews with INDOT used the unplanned northbound closure of I-65 to complete additional work. Alternate routes will be reopened over the next few days.
Until that time, I-65 will be an active work zone while contractors rehabilitate and widen the interstate near Lafayette. Drivers should remain cautious within the construction zones, decreasing their speed, looking twice before they change lanes inside work zones, and allowing additional space for following distance.
“I am grateful for the Indiana Department of Transportation’s around-the-clock efforts to reopen the interstate ahead of schedule,” Gov. Mike Pence said. “We appreciate the patience of citizens in communities that have been affected. Construction in this area and others is ongoing and we urge motorists to be mindful as they travel our highways.”
There will continue to be planned I-65 lane closures at night so that the crews can finish the project. These closures will extend from State Road 38 (Exit 168) to State Road 25 (Exit 175). Alternate routes include State Route 28, U.S. Highway 231, and
U.S. Highway
52.
