DOT to help decrease fatalities on the road

The U.S. Department of Transportation is taking proactive steps to reduce the rates of fatalities taking place on roads across the nation.

Many drivers don’t realize that over 90 percent of all of the crashes in the U.S. are because of human error. This highlights just how important it is for each driver on the road to make wise decisions and be aware of other drivers on the road.

Officials have emphasized the importance of individual drivers making good decisions, like putting away phones while driving or not drinking and driving. Even watching pedestrians and bicyclists to be certain that the roads are safe.

There are many opportunities to improve driver safety to reduce or eliminate driver errors, and some of these include better highway designs and advanced automotive technology. Implementing these changes could help drivers travel safer and better.

To accomplish this, the Federal Highway Administration has granted finances to support a variety of interchange reconstruction projects that could decrease the delays of traffic while also improving safety for motorists who are driving off and on the highways. The funds have also been working on increasing the safety of rural roadways as well as supporting Three-County Road Improvements Program in Mississippi and similar funding projects.
