The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) recently announced that it is taking its Beyond Traffic U.S. conversation on a national tour; there are several regions throughout the U.S. where transportation important infrastructure was originally constructed by earlier generations, and when these infrastructures don’t work, failure of rail tunnels and deteriorating bridges occurs.
These weak points create more stress in commuters’ lives as they attempt to make their daily travels from home to work or school.
Today, USDOT seeks to build for the future; by building for the present, it is only building for the past.
Earlier in 2015, USDOT released its draft report about the transportation challenges that face the U.S. The report, titled Beyond Traffic, outlines possible policy options for solving these problems. Beyond Traffic is designed to be better than a document -- it is a portion of the national conversation concerning U.S. transportation needs.
“Our hope has been that Beyond Traffic will get everyone from elected officials to everyday citizens focused on finding solutions,” the announcement said. “So, throughout September and October, we'll be hosting forums in 11 cities where we think the Beyond Traffic conversation is crucial. Each of these cities is part of our country’s 11 mega-regions, a network of urban clusters connected to each other through economic, social and cultural relationships -- and, yes, through transportation infrastructure.”
