US 93 traffic switch implemented in Arizona

Officials with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) made a traffic switch on the US 93 north of Wickenburg on Thursday.

The traffic switch was part of a highway widening project to upgrade a 5-mile portion of US 93, extending from State Route 71 to State Route 89, north of Wickenburg.

Consequently, drivers continued to travel using new southbound lanes while the crews furthered their work on existing northbound lanes. While workers prepared for the switch, drivers were stopped between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. for up to 15 minutes at a time.

To comply with ongoing construction projects, motorists are encouraged to use the single travel lane that will stay open for drivers in both directions. At the day of the traffic switch, all drivers were advised to add an extra 10 to 15 minutes to their travel times between mileposts 185 and 190.

Now that the traffic switch has been completed, ADOT has announced that it will start to restripe as well as repave the current northbound lanes.
