New leadership named by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials

The board of directors of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) recently elected Paul Trombino, III as its association president and David Bernhardt, PE, as the vice president.

The two men are expected to pursue the policy priorities of AASHTO with their main focus on applying the new strategic plan from AASHTO, which includes finishing a thorough review of the current committee structure of the association.

Trombino previously served as the Iowa Department of Transportation Director. Bernhardt previously worked as the commissioner of the Maine Department of Transportation.

"I've spent more than two decades in transportation; this ranks at the top of my list of extraordinary moments and I approach it with great humility," Trombino said. "I am deeply honored to be selected by the AASHTO board of directors to serve in this national leadership role."

Trombino sees infrastructure as crucial to the US economy.

"Transportation powers the creation of wealth across the United States, unleashing opportunity for economic activity and quality of life," Trombino said. "AASHTO has served its members well for 100 years, and it is important that the organization continue to adapt to ensure it can serve its evolving membership."
